Re-mothering via Body Oil

To be the best parents, we must parent ourselves; this journey is eternal. It’s about you becoming the parent you never had for yourself, taking ownership of your adult self. It’s about being present, showing up for yourself, and becoming more conscious and awake in supporting your body, mind, and soul without excuses.

3 of my favorite oils if you are new to this practice are:

Peppermint oil. (Head and Neck Massage)

The active ingredient in peppermint oil is menthol, which accounts for about 44% of the plant. Menthol may also lessen the intensity of acute migraine attacks. One study found that a topical gel with 6% menthol decreased pain intensity after 2 hours.

Peppermint oil is also shown to be effective for the additional symptoms that migraine, sinus, tension, and cluster headaches may cause, such as:

  • nausea

  • stress

  • congestion

  • runny nose

  • muscle pain

Jojoba oil. (Full Body Massage)

Jojoba oil comprises vitamin E, B complex, copper, and zinc. And if you’re looking for an anti-inflammatory ingredient, jojoba oil also fits the bill.

“Copper and zinc are two prevalent elements uniquely woven into the proteins our body uses,” Dr. Vij notes. “Especially when it comes to wound healing or collagen formation, copper and zinc are essential to skin function.”

Jojoba oil has many antioxidants, which help fight inflammation, free radicals, and oxidative stress.

“The elements in jojoba oil are helpful with the normal processes of your skin and have been shown to accelerate healing and combat inflammation,” Dr. Vij adds. “It can also help with eczema, psoriasis, and sunburns.”

Eucalyptus oil. (Joint Pain)

Eucalyptus oil helps to reduce pain and inflammation associated with many conditions. It may also be helpful to people experiencing back pain or those recovering from a joint or muscle injury. Talk to your doctor about if it may be right for you.

Eucalyptus is widely believed to decrease symptoms of stress.

In one study, 62 healthy people experienced significant reductions in pre-surgery anxiety after inhaling eucalyptus oil. Eucalyptus contains eucalyptol, which has been found to possess anti-anxiety properties (14Trusted Source).

Furthermore, inhaling eucalyptus oil for 30 minutes has been associated with lower blood pressure in patients after knee surgery, suggesting a calming effect (12Trusted Source).

Researchers believe that it decreases the activity of your sympathetic nervous system — your stress response system — and increases the activity of your parasympathetic nervous system, which promotes relaxation (12Trusted Source).

The bottom line, Eucalyptus oil have many impressive benefits. They may help decrease pain, promote relaxation, and relieve cold symptoms.

How to Apply and Build your Ritual.

This ritual should be performed after taking a shower in the evening and incorporated into your bedtime routine. It resembles how mothers nurture their babies by practicing and honoring bedtime sleep. By showing up for yourself, you are practicing the ultimate act of self-compassion and self-love.

Creating a designated space in your bedroom for this ritual is essential. A simple suggestion is to have a mat with a towel ready on the floor and your oils next to it.

While you apply it, practice thanking your body parts for how they help you move and stand since our body is our best friend! This ritual offers an opportunity to be grateful and not take our best friend for granted ;)
